Prepare your children for the future. There are simple things you can do to teach them communication skills that will last a lifetime.
- Work on solutions to situations together; let them know you value their opinion.
- When there are issues, let them come up with a plan, then go over it together, and tweak it together when necessary. Again, it lets them know that you value their opinion and makes them feel important. It also builds self-esteem and encourages them to become problem solvers.
- Ask your children, "How does this make you feel?", "What do you think?" They in turn will ask others about their feelings.
